The Certificate of Merit program requires the student to be tested (usually around February) over
1. Scales and Chords
2. Listening Skills
3. Music Theory
4. Memorized Pieces from the MTAC list, performed with good Technique.
5. Sight Reading
6. History (upper levels only)
  .
The process is definitely demanding, and may not be right for every student. If a student fails in one or more categories, then they have to be retested at the same level the following year. Students who successfully complete Certificate of Merit requirements will be awarded with a special certificate and recognition within the California teacher’s association. I will also be providing some special gifts to students who complete the program.
.
Enrollment fees cost approximately $35 depending on the level of enrollment. (Beginning levels are less expensive).
Students will also spend around $30 – $40 on books. For instance, students will need to purchase a theory book, sight reading book as well as performance repertoire from different historical periods that meet the categories and guidelines provided by MTAC.
This MTAC website discusses many of the considerations and guidelines for the process, so be sure to reference it. My studio offers the “Path A” program.
.
Registration starts October 1st and closes October 31st.
